The Vanilla server was removed sometime ago by the staff so if you're looking for a Vanilla server, you'll have to look elsewhere. I played very little of the previous expansions (Vanilla, TBC, WOTLK, MoP, WoD) but they seemed to be fine stability wise even though the population on those servers was low. I don't recall if they dropped support for the Legion server or put it on the backburner (I'll have to go back and check). The devs are trying to at least fix things but it'll mostly be for the BFA server. The biggest issues you can face is the community (In my experience, its been mostly Spanish speakers), the server instability particularly for BFA and Legion (Random crashes and lag), the severe amount of things that are bugged for both new and older expansions (Quests etc). Its not perfect but actually being able to play, get gear, and so on is doable even with the shop having loot boxes that give gear up to 950+ ilvl for Legion and 400+ ilvl for BFA. I've been playing on Firestorm for 2+ years (Mostly on the BFA server but still play Legion from time to time).
